MS Word - Text Basics in Microsoft Word

 

1. Typing and Inserting Text

  • Insertion Point: The blinking vertical line shows where your text will appear.
  • Start Typing: Just begin typing at the insertion point.
  • Move Cursor: Use arrow keys or click with your mouse to reposition the cursor.

2. Selecting Text

  • Click and Drag: Highlight text by clicking and dragging your mouse.
  • Keyboard Shortcut: Hold Shift and use arrow keys.
  • Double-click: Selects a word.
  • Triple-click: Selects a paragraph.

3. Cut, Copy, and Paste

  • Cut: Ctrl + X removes selected text.
  • Copy: Ctrl + C duplicates selected text.
  • Paste: Ctrl + V inserts copied/cut text at the cursor.

4. Formatting Text

  • Font Style & Size: Change from the Home tab.
  • Bold/Italic/Underline: Use Ctrl + B, Ctrl + I, Ctrl + U.
  • Text Color: Select from the font color dropdown.

5. Undo and Redo

  • Undo: Ctrl + Z reverses your last action.
  • Redo: Ctrl + Y re-applies the undone action.
