Telugu Typing - A Comprehensive Guide PART 3: Typing Conjunct Characters

What are Conjunct Characters (Sandhi)?

In Telugu, two consonants sometimes merge together to form a single character. These are called conjunct letters (Sandhi - సంధి).

For example:

  • క్ + ష = క్ష (kṣa)
  • త్ + ర = త్ర (tra)
  • న్ + న = న్న (nna)
  • న్ + ద = న్ద (nda)

How to Type Conjunct Characters?

  1. Use the "halant" (్) symbol to remove the vowel sound from the first consonant.
  2. Then type the second consonant to form the conjunct character.

Example:

  • త + ్ + ర = త్ర (tra)

Common Telugu Words with Conjuncts

  • కష్టం (kaṣṭam) – Difficulty
  • శాస్త్రం (shastram) – Science
  • పండితుడు (panditudu) – Scholar

Typing conjunct characters correctly is crucial for professional Telugu writing.
