Telugu Typing - A Step-by-Step Guide to Mastering the Keyboard PART 4: Typing Special Symbols and Telugu Grammar Rules
Telugu includes a set of unique symbols that appear frequently in writing and digital text. These symbols add meaning, pronunciation, and grammatical clarity.
Unique Telugu Symbols
• ౹ (Rupee Symbol) – Used to represent Indian currency in Telugu text.
• ఁ (Chandrabindu) – Indicates nasalized sounds, commonly used in classical or traditional writing.
• ః (Visarga) – Represents a breathy sound in Sanskrit-origin words and appears often in devotional or scriptural text.
Important Telugu Typing Rules
To type Telugu correctly, it helps to understand a few core rules of the script:
• Telugu does not use uppercase or lowercase letters, unlike English. Every character has only one case.
• Vowel signs (matras) are attached to the consonant after typing the consonant. For example:
క + ీ = కీ
• Some Telugu words require the Halant (Virama) to create conjunct consonants, which combine two consonants into a single joined form. Examples include:
క్ర (k-ra), త్ర (t-ra)
Following these rules ensures clean, accurate Telugu typing, especially when using layouts like InScript or phonetic keyboards. With regular practice, forming symbols and conjunct letters becomes natural and error-free.
