MS Word - Font Styles

Font styles in Microsoft Word define how text appears beyond basic font type and size. They are used to add emphasis, structure and visual clarity to specific words or sections without changing the actual content.

Common Font Styles
The most commonly used font styles are bold, italic and underline. Each style serves a different purpose and helps highlight information in a readable and organized way.

Bold Style
Bold makes text thicker and darker. It is mainly used for headings, titles and important keywords so they stand out clearly from surrounding text. Bold text immediately draws the reader’s attention.

Italic Style
Italic slants the text slightly to the right. It is often used for emphasis, titles of books, foreign words or to subtly highlight terms without being too strong. Italic is softer than bold and works well inside paragraphs.

Underline Style
Underline places a line beneath the text. It is commonly used for headings or specific emphasis, but should be used carefully because too much underlining can reduce readability and may be confused with hyperlinks.

Why Font Styles Are Important
Font styles help organize information, guide the reader’s focus and improve overall document readability. When used correctly, they make documents clearer, more professional and easier to understand.
